Description:

Perennial herb with annual stems, up to 40 cm, growing from a woody rootstock. The mauve to deep purple flowers are held by a dish-shaped upper calyx lobe.

Derivation of specific name:

schweinfurthii: named after Dr Georg August Schweinfurth (1836-1925), german botanical collector and taxonomist.
