Volkameria inermis (glory bower) is a species of flowering plant in the genus Volkameria of the family Lamiaceae, found in Australia, Asia, Malesia and the Pacific islands.[1]

An erect to scandent or trailing, evergreen shrub, up to 3 m tall, commonly used for hedges round the gardens etc. Leaves elliptic-ovate to obovate, opposite, entire, petiolate, subcoriaceous. Flowers white, in axillary, trichotomous cymes, terminating the branches, c. 2 cm across; pedicels 1.5-4 cm long; bracts minute, linear. Calyx 5-6 mm long, cupular, minutely 5-toothed, persistent, slightly broader than the base of corolla-tube. Corolla-tube 2.5-3.5 cm long, glabrous; lobes ovate, c. 8 mm long, obscurely crenulate, obtuse. Stamen filaments pubescent, dark violet or purple, much exserted, curved above. Drupe pear-shaped, c. 10 mm long, 4-lobed, glabrous, enclosed by the persistent calyx, green.

A very common hedge plant of the plains of Sind and Punjab. In Karachi it thrives well. Its cuttings are used for producing new plants.

Shrubs. Branches and branchlets pubescent. Petiole ca. 1 cm to leaf subsessile; leaf blade elliptic-lanceolate, ovate-lanceolate, or elliptic, thick papery, abaxially pubescent, adaxially subglabrous and glandular, base obtuse, margin entire, apex obtuse. Inflorescences usually 3-flowered, pubescent; peduncle 2-4 mm; bracts linear, ca. 2 cm. Calyx subtruncate, with minute rudimentary teeth, outside pubescent, inside glabrous, sparsely glandular. Corolla white; tube 2-3 cm, ca. 2 mm in diam. at throat; lobes elliptic, ca. 7 mm. Stamens exserted, pubescent at base of filaments. Style and ovary glabrous. Drupes gray-yellow, obovoid to subglobose, 6-11 mm in diam. Fl. and fr. Mar-Dec.
